Love Defined in the Shema

In Chapter 3 of Family Driven Faith, Voddie Baucham defines love based on the Hebrew Shema:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” (v. 5). The three Hebrew words used here (translated heart, soul, and might) provide a clear biblical definition of love: Love is an act of the will accompanied by emotion that leads to action on behalf of its object.

The Heart: the will; an act of the will; a choice
Hebrew: lebab, inner man, mind, or will.

The Soul: emotions

The Might: action; effort (John 14:15, 21)
