Royal Wedding - Marriage Defined

"Those present in Westminster Abbey, and watching around the world, heard Dr. John Hall, Dean of Westminster Abbey, deliver the introduction to the royal wedding, explaining what all the 'fuss' was about.
Here is an excerpt of his remarks: "
"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here in the sight of God and in the face of this congregation, to join together this man and this woman in holy matrimony; which is an honourable estate, instituted of God himself, signifying unto us the mystical union that is betwixt Christ and his Church; which holy estate Christ adorned and beautified with his presence, and first miracle that he wrought, in Cana of Galilee, and is commended in Holy Writ to be honourable among all men; …

"First, it was ordained for the increase of mankind according to the will of God, and that children might be brought up in the fear and nurture of the Lord, and to the praise of his holy name.

"Secondly, it was ordained in order that the natural instincts and affections, implanted by God, should be hallowed and directed aright; that those who are called of God to this holy estate, should continue therein in pureness of living.

"Thirdly, it was ordained for the mutual society, help, and comfort, that the one ought to have of the other, both in prosperity and adversity."
Gary Bauer, End of Day Report, 4/29/2011

"Haven't you read," Jesus replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." Matthew 19:4-6

Disaster Response!

It's been a very tragic spring storm season. Please be praying!

A couple years ago I tried to develop a Disaster Response Team (DiRT) from my local church, but at that time there just wasn't enough interest. Once again, I would like to take a survey of local churches and groups to see if there is enough interest in forming a team. Because of the recent regional devastation, there will be opportunity to take disaster relief trips and help people rebuild.

If there is enough interest, my general plan is this:
1) develop at least one team, one team leader and get commitments
2) hold general training
3) join with Samaritan's Purse as a Disaster Relief Team to help with recovery efforts somewhere in the regional U.S.

Please contact me ASAP if you are interested in joining a DiRT Team! chaplainmick.com/contactus.aspx

Another 'My take' on Rob Bell and Hell Controversy: it's a distraction...

It is a distraction from the Gospel, which is the power to save. Whether his theology is right or wrong, it's become a distraction from what's really important.

We can be supper duper hip; we can ware the coolest clothes, have the coolest messages and videos; we can have the best band and most contemporary church building; we can have comfortable sermons that tickle peoples ears and make them feel good about themselves; but if we don't have the gospel infused in all we do, we have nothing. No power to save. Just a distraction from God and salvation through the message of Jesus Christ.

"I am not ashamed of the gospel," says Paul, "for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes." Romans 1:16

We are all condemned by the law for our sins. We can't earn our way in by following religious rules. We can't just slide by unaware pleading ignorance. No one can stand before God without deserving His eternal punishment. Except one, Jesus Christ, and yet He willing paid the penalty for our sins. He took our punishment upon Himself to save us. He did that for me and you. "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, 'Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.' For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For 'everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'" Romans 10:8-13

Earth Day + Good Friday = Praise The Creator day!

Praise God! "For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made." Romans 1:20

Where were you when I created the earth?
Tell me, since you know so much!
Who decided on its size? Certainly you'll know that!
Who came up with the blueprints and measurements?
How was its foundation poured,
and who set the cornerstone,
While the morning stars sang in chorus
and all the angels shouted praise?
And who took charge of the ocean
when it gushed forth like a baby from the womb?
That was me! I wrapped it in soft clouds,
and tucked it in safely at night.
Then I made a playpen for it,
a strong playpen so it couldn't run loose,
And said, 'Stay here, this is your place.
Your wild tantrums are confined to this place.'
...
"The ostrich flaps her wings futilely—
all those beautiful feathers, but useless!
She lays her eggs on the hard ground,
leaves them there in the dirt, exposed to the weather,
Not caring that they might get stepped on and cracked
or trampled by some wild animal.
She's negligent with her young, as if they weren't even hers.
She cares nothing about anything.
She wasn't created very smart, that's for sure,
wasn't given her share of good sense.
But when she runs, oh, how she runs,
laughing, leaving horse and rider in the dust.

"Are you the one who gave the horse his prowess
and adorned him with a shimmering mane?
Did you create him to prance proudly
and strike terror with his royal snorts?
He paws the ground fiercely, eager and spirited,
then charges into the fray.
He laughs at danger, fearless,
doesn't shy away from the sword.
The banging and clanging
of quiver and lance don't faze him.
He quivers with excitement, and at the trumpet blast
races off at a gallop.
At the sound of the trumpet he neighs mightily,
smelling the excitement of battle from a long way off,
catching the rolling thunder of the war cries.
...
God then confronted Job directly: "Now what do you have to say for yourself?
Are you going to haul me, the Mighty One, into court and press charges?"
Job 38, 39, 40 (The Message)

Marvel at the creation! Praise you God! But do not exchange the glory of the immortal God for worship of the creation. To those that do "God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen." Romans 1:24-25

Good news though! Even though all have sinned and deserve the wrath of a perfectly holy, perfectly just, and perfectly loving God, He has provided forgiveness and rebirth through His son Jesus Christ. "I am not ashamed of the gospel," says Paul, "for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes." Romans 1:16

For 'everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'" Pray for Nigeria!

Muslim protests and riots after the election of a Christian president turn deadly and destructive in Nigeria.

Pray for our brothers and sisters in Nigeria, and pray for peace and stability in that nation. The reports are just staggering:

"From the cities of Maiduguri to Sokoto, both in northern Nigeria, the destruction inflicted upon Christians is enormous. More than 60 churches were torched, thousands of houses belonging to Christians were destroyed, and both pastors and church workers killed. Christians in the villages were also not spared; many Christians were seen fleeing, abandoning their homes for fear of attack."
Northern Nigeria: Deadly Violence Erupts after Election of Christian President
Jerry Dykstra, Open Doors USA

60 Christian Churches burned.
Thousands of Christian homes destroyed.
People murdered.

I can't even comprehend it. I picture my wife and our children in my home as angry mobs march down the street...

Father I pray for the persecuted and the rioters. Jesus do not delay! In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Yubelina, my sister, I love you!

God's stirring some serious emotions in my heart today. . .

Last night I had to have a conversation with Luke (5) and Emily (3) after Luke saw a picture of a young Christian girl in Indonesia that is grossly disfigured after Muslims attacked and burned her village. He said "she looks like a bad guy." So that really led to some good but hard conversation about being children of God and about appearances and about persecution, etc... Really touching the reality of this fallen world and the spiritual battle we face.

Tonight we are writing her letters and the kids are drawing pictures. Today I heard a song on WCIC that just had me weeping as I day dreamed about hugging her as a sister.

Any way, feeling a little too comfortable lately. Like maybe I've slipped back into the deceptive nature of the "Matrix" of this world that is so easy to do in America. I'm distracted by comfort, by entertainment, by stuff.

BTW, here is Yubelina: persecutionblog.com/2011/01/true-beauty.html

Christians Arrested for Worship in China

"'Go! Go! Go!' shouted the police, herding the worshippers into a bus. Church leaders had told them not to resist arrest. 'Let them take us away, just like a lamb to the slaughter' were the words used in a letter to the congregation."
