Advent Family Devotional - First Sunday

Today is the first Sunday of Advent.

Advent, or more commonly known among the culture as Christmas season, is the worship and devotional season leading up to the birth of God's Son, the sinners Saviour, and The King of the Heavenly Throne Jesus Christ, and looking forward to His return in glory! Come Lord Jesus!

25 "There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. 26 Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. 27 At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near."

29 He told them this parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

32 "I tell you the truth, this generation [or race] will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

34 "Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. 35 For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."
Luke 21:25-36

Thanksgiving

Thank you, God!

So just the other night I'm on my knees praying and asking God for a break. We have been on Dave Ramsey's biblical financial plan and every time we seem to make some forward progress an "emergency" would come up and set us back. Most recently is the leaking tub and rotting bathroom sub-foor. (Floor won't need replaced, but a couple hundred to replace fixtures and do minor repairs, at least)

So I'm praying, "God I don't know how to make ends meet this month. I want to provide a safe and healthy home for my family and for Your glory and do it by Your principles. . ."

Today, God answered that prayer! I was given an unexpected gift in the form of a forgiven monthly debt payment to the tune of about $400.00!

God is good! He hears our prayers. Thank you, God. I thank you for answering my prayers. I thank you for the friend that made that most generous gift. Thank you "friend"!

And most importantly I thank Jesus Christ for paying my debt to God the Father for my sins. I justly deserved to pay the debt myself, but God so loved me that He sent His one and only begotten Son to pay my debt so that I might be forgiven! I didn't deserve it, yet He did it any way. That's amazing grace!

Good news! He did the same for you too!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 10:9

Thank God!

Bible Challenge 2009 - Week 34

The Bible Knights Quest! - Bible Challenge 2009 - Week 34

Sunday --- Luke 5
Monday --- Luke 6
Tuesday --- Luke 7
Wednesday --- Luke 8
Thursday --- Luke 9
Friday --- Luke 10
Saturday --- Luke 11

Knights and Ladies,

But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."

Luke 2:10-14

The birth of Jesus Christ, the Savior of all people, is the reason for the Christmas season! Good news to all people!

God seems to be breaking my heart a little more every Christmas season. This year is no different. My heart already aches! Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, the hope we have in eternity, and the longing for His return. And yet, it is all pageantry, stuff, debt, consumerism, marketing. . . it makes me sick. I don't know how to slowly break my family of the worldliness, but I feel God's calling to do so.

"The story of Christ's birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love.

So, what happened? What was once a time to celebrate the birth of a savior has somehow turned into a season of stress, traffic jams, and shopping lists.

And when it's all over, many of us are left with presents to return, looming debt that will take months to pay off, and this empty feeling of missed purpose. Is this what we really want out of Christmas?

What if Christmas became a world-changing event again?

Welcome to Advent Conspiracy." www.AdventConspiracy.org

A prayer for the use of Holy Scripture:

O Gracious God and most merciful Father, who has granted us the rich and precious jewel of Your holy word, assist us with Your Spirit, that it may be written in our hearts to our everlasting comfort, to reform us, to renew us according to Your own Image, to build us up, and to instruct us into the perfect building of Christlikeness, sanctifying and increasing in us all heavenly virtues. The Bible Knights Quest! - Bible Challenge 2009 - Week 33 - 11/22/2009

Sunday --- Mark 14
Monday --- Mark 15
Tuesday --- Mark 16
Wednesday --- Luke 1
Thursday --- Luke 2
Friday --- Luke 3
Saturday --- Luke 4

Knights and Ladies,

But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.'
Mark 10:6

Jesus confirms scripture, confirms creation, and confirms the natural family.

Throughout the Gospels, Jesus quotes scripture and confirms it's truth. Here He quotes Genesis 1:27 to establish the true nature of marriage.

"As Christians, we can't live by what we feel or go off our gut, because it is rotten (Philippians 3:19). We have to live by truth. God has been constantly reminding me lately that his Word is truth. And truth is truth. It doesn't only become truth when we start believing it. Truth just is — for everybody everywhere and at all times.
("Your Own Jesus: A God Insistent on Making It Personal" by Mark Hall of Casting Crowns with Tim Luke)

"Is Jesus Christ really the God of heaven and earth who is able to meet our most significant needs? If not, let's put Christianity to rest once and for all. However, if Jesus Christ holds the answers for life, then how can you fully experience Him today? In this dynamic new book, author and speaker Jeff Schwarzentraub gets beyond the routines, rhetoric, and rituals of religion and points the way for those who have the courage to follow. 'Anyone who knows Jeff knows...he is no fan of casual Christianity. If you're looking for something warm and cozy, then stay away from this book. But if you're looking for something to challenge you, kick you out of your comfort zone, and help you stretch to new places...then read Challenging Christianity at your own risk.' -Cal Rychener, Senior Pastor, Northwoods Community Church, Peoria, Illinois"

Senate Health Bill Mandates Federally Subsidized Abortion

Reid Introduces Senate Health Bill That Mandates Federally Subsidized Abortion

(CNSNews.com) - Senate Majority Harry Reid (D.-Nev.) late Wednesday published the final text of a Senate health care bill that would mandate federally subsidized abortion.

The mandate appears on page 120 of the 2,074-page bill under the seemingly innocuous heading: ‘Assured Availability of Varied Coverage Through Exchanges.”

Sex Education goal is to promote sexual freedom!

More sex ed, lies, and modern culture

Listen up, parents. The goal of sex education is not to prevent unwanted pregnancies and diseases. The goal is to promote sexual freedom.

That may sound outrageous, but it's the premise of Dr. Miriam Grossman's new book, You're Teaching My Child What?, and it's backed up by plenty of cold, hard facts. Here's what she writes in the introduction: "From a review of many of today's sex ed curricula and websites, it would appear that a 'sexually healthy' individual is one who has been 'desensitized,' who is without any sense of embarrassment or shame (what some might consider 'modesty'), whose sexuality is always 'positive' and 'open,' who respects and accepts 'diverse' lifestyles, and who practices 'safer sex' with every 'partner.' This is not about health, folks. This is about indoctrination." . . .

Knights and Ladies,

Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you."
Mark 5:19

Tell how much the Lord has done for you, people are drawn to Jesus through personal testimony of those He has touched. In the same chapter, Mark tells of a woman that has been sick for 12 years that "having heard about Jesus" (v.27) seeks to simply touch His robe, and because of her faith she is healed!

How and what can you share with people about how Jesus has been working in your life?

"To be a missionary for Christ, in the region where he was so well known and so long dreaded, was a far nobler calling than to follow [Jesus] where nobody had ever heard of him."

Knights and Ladies,

"With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear."
Matthew 26:51

A taboo topic on my heart today. The right to keep and bear arms, a right, according to the constitution, that shall not be infringed but has been, is a hotly debated topic in America today.

It makes me smile every time I read this passage, because I sense a self imposed timidity among Christian men today, yet here the very disciples and apostles chosen by Jesus carried around swords and were even ready to fight a political war for Jesus. Of course, that wasn't God's will. God's will is that Jesus be given over to the authorities and Scripture fulfilled (v. 53-54).

"It should also be pointed out that Jesus used physical force when He cleared the temple of the money-changers, after witnessing clear examples of abuse of authority and power. Not only did He overturn tables, He made a whip with His own hands in a premeditated act of justice and righteousness. . .

Jesus’ statement about turning our cheek most plainly applies to retaliation, and His command is clear: Don’t do it. Jesus did not retaliate by returning blow for blow, insult for insult. But He did protest with words and with physical intimidation. . .

Spiritual growth, especially courage, is fed by what we do in community. It’s faith in action, discernable by others and yourself. Remember, the Bible says the righteous are as bold as lions; right now, we think the righteous are as soft as marshmallows. I’m going with the Word; I hope you do too."
(Paul Coughlin, author of "No More Christian Nice Guy" and "No More Jellyfish, Chickens or Wimps")

The U.S. Constitution, 2nd Amendment

Excerpt from Chuck Baldwin: Another State Introduces Firearms Freedom Act

At the end of the day, the Second Amendment was never about hunting or target shooting. It has always been about protecting the people and states against federal tyranny.

The Second Amendment itself states, "A well regulated Militia, BEING NECESSARY TO THE SECURITY OF A FREE STATE, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed." (Emphasis added.) Note that the purpose of the right to keep and bear arms was to insure "the security of a FREE STATE." (Emphasis added.) "Free from what?" you ask. Free from federal tyranny. Free from an overbearing, encroaching, heavy-handed, would-be national government.

The founders--even the Centralists of the day--all acknowledged that the right to keep and bear arms was, first of all, for the protection of the people against government tyranny. Observe:

"[I]f circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people while there is a large body of citizens, little, if at all, inferior to them in discipline and the use of arms, who stand ready to defend their own rights and those of their fellow-citizens." (Alexander Hamilton, The Federalist Papers, Number 29)

"While the people have property, arms in their hands, and only a spark of noble spirit, the most corrupt Congress must be mad to form any project of tyranny." (Rev. Nicholas Collin, Fayetteville [NC] Gazette, October 12, 1789) . . .

So, for now, 10 states have proposed--and 2 have passed--a Firearms Freedom Act, properly declaring that federal authority granted in the Constitution regarding interstate commerce cannot apply to products (firearms, in this case) that are manufactured and sold within the territory of each respective State. In other words, 10 States are serving notice to Washington, D.C., that they are going to insist that the federal government stop ignoring the Constitution of the United States. . .

This is a battle that is just beginning to heat up, but promises to get red-hot in the not-too-distant future. As for me and my house, we believe this showdown is long overdue. To quote Patrick Henry, "Let it come! I repeat it, Sir, let it come!"

Health Care in the Constitution? Embarrassing Illinois Senator, again!

Sometimes it's just downright embarrassing to be from Illinois!

Sen. Burris Cites Unwritten Constitutional 'Health' Provision to Justify Forcing Americans to Buy Health Insurance

(CNSNews.com) - When asked by CNSNews.com what specific part of the Constitution authorizes Congress to mandate that individuals must purchase health insurance, Sen. Roland Burris (D-Ill.) pointed to the part of the Constitution that he says authorizes the federal government "to provide for the health, welfare and the defense of the country." In fact, the word "health" appears nowhere in the Constitution.

Full article: http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/56629

On the other hand:
Nineteen States Move to Defend Individual Health Care Choice
Beware the health insurance police "A mandate requiring all individuals to purchase health insurance would be an unprecedented form of federal action. The government has never required people to buy any good or service as a condition of lawful residence in the United States," CBO wrote in August 1994.

If you read the article and the transcript, notice how he dodges the question every time by re-wording the question. For instance:

CNSNews.com also asked Sen. Burris, “If a person doesn’t want health insurance, do you think they should be required by the government to actually have to get it?

Should people be required by government to buy health insurance, turns into:

". . . under this here, we’re providing in the legislation where every one would be able to acquire health insurance.

Should people be required to by health insurance (against their will even), becomes everyone would be able to acquire health insurance . . . WHAT?

BTW, under the current proposed bills, everyone would be REQUIRED BY LAW to buy health insurance, even the self insured and those under programs like Samaritans Ministries. If you don't, you can be fined up to $3,800.00 annually per family! That is unconstitutional!

Not to forget, that you would be forced to fund the murder of unborn children with your tax dollars, and "THE RIGHT TO LIFE" IS IN THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE! Let's declare independence from this oppressive national government once again!
