“A large group of prominent evangelicals hopes to make poverty a center-stage issue during these difficult financial times and the upcoming elections. . . This is clearly seen in Barack Obama's impassioned pledges to help the poor. . .

The long-term progressive goal will prove ineffective in the end. Forced redistribution removes the incentive to work harder and earn more. Why work hard if your profits will simply be given to someone else? Why not just kick back and feed off of others? Rather than embracing policies that result in a redistribution of wealth, we should seek to provide short-term, restorative aid for the poor that encourages the development of financial independence. . .

Private charity emerges from a sense of ethical duty. The Scriptures are filled with exhortations to help the poor: "He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done." (Prov. 19:17 NIV; see also Prov. 14:31 and 29:7) Our personal duty to help our neighbor can't be pawned on elected government officials. Each of us has an individual duty to care for those around us.

Organizations like One.org and Sojourners are right to call for an increased effort to help the poor, but they are wrong to look to government for the solution. The true solution will come primarily from individuals, charities, and churches across the country, who take seriously Jesus' exhortation (Matthew 25:34-46) to provide hospitality, food, drink, clothing, and care for "the least" among us.”

Knights and Ladies, as we allow God to transform our lives, we should fellowship with others of like mind and spirit. We should “become right-minded and stop sinning.” (1 Corinthians 15:34 HCSB) However, that’s not to keep us from engaging the world and fulfilling our calling to be salt and light!

City-Wide Election Eve Prayer Service
-- next Monday, Nov 3rd 7 PM@ Riverside Community Church

Join together with area churches next Monday as we gather to pray for our country’s, our state’s, and our area’s new leaders. Pastors from many area churches encompassing varied denominations will lead us in prayer.

Putting political differences aside, this night we will come as ONE NATION UNDER GOD to worship and pray corporately and individually that God will guide, heal and protect during these tenuous times.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." Psalm 33:12

This Friday Oct 31st, many churches are offering Halloween Alternatives for our community.

If you are not serving at one of these parties, come pray for them, for salvation for many kids, and the protection of our city at the Push for Peace Halloween Alternative Prayer Walk at Cornerstone Gospel Fellowship 6 PM Oct 31st at Jefferson and Sangor in Peoria.

Bible Challenge 2008 - Week 30

Week 30

“But eagerly desire the greater gifts.” (1 Corinthians 12:31)

How rich this one sentence! During last years Bible In a Year Challenge, I circled the word “desire” because my first instinct was, “but we shouldn’t covet the gifts of others that we haven’t been given, should we?” The answer to that question is no. But. . .

This is definitely a time when the full context and spirit of Paul’s full letter must be taken in. Because as long as our desire for greater gifts, different gifts, or even greater capacity within our gifts is a desire for the growth and edification of the whole body (Church or fellowship of believers), then it is a good desire!

Presidential Debate - 10-23-2008 - Update 2

I have a special request for my Illinois subscribers.

You must know, in all likelihood, that a vote for McCain is a wasted vote in Illinois. Illinois is a blue state and Obama will win the state. So I would like to offer an alternative.

By Providence alone, the Constitution Party made it on the ballot for this general election! If they secure enough of the vote (5%), they will achieve "Established Party" status and will not have to raise an unreasonable amount of petition signatures every time a candidate runs.

If you vote for Chuck Baldwin and Darrel Castle of the Constitution Party for President and Vice President, and Chad Koppie for U.S. Senate, it will serve three over arching goals:

1. With 5% of the vote, the Constitution Party will achieve "Established Party" status in Illinois. This means that in 2010 the Constitution Party of Illinois will be holding a primary, just like the two major parties and you will be able to pull a Constitution Party ballot to vote for the Constitution Party's candidates. ALSO, and most importantly, having established party status means that we will only need to collect 5,000 signatures (the same as the two major parties) instead of the overwhelming 25,000 signatures currently required. Your vote will count towards this 5% target goal!

2. You will be sending a clear protest to the failed Republican Party (and Democrats). You will be voting principle over party. You will be voting for someone instead of against someone, and you will be sending the message that you want truth, integrity, and action over political rhetoric, that you want limited constitutional government over bigger and more oppressive nanny state socialism that breeds dependence! (Get out of the way and let the Church and Non-Profits do their work - Amen?)

3. You will be opening the door to rid Illinois of it's corrupt and inept state leadership!

Remember, in Illinois, a vote for McCain is a wasted vote! Please do take the time and do the research and consider voting for the Constitution Party!

Baldwin, along with other third party candidates will show voters they don't have to settle for the socialist policies of Obama or McCain. Chuck will detail his vision for a return to Constitutional government in a 90 minute forum.

"The pre-born child, whose life begins at fertilization, is a human being created in God's image. The first duty of the law is to prevent the shedding of innocent blood. It is, therefore, the duty of all civil governments, and that certainly includes the office of the President of the United States, to secure and to safeguard the lives of the pre-born. I affirm the God-given legal person hood of all unborn human beings, without exception.

In addition to guaranteeing the legal person hood of the unborn, Ron Paul's Sanctity of Life Act, which I wholeheartedly support, would strip the appellate jurisdiction of the Supreme Court in all cases of abortion in accordance with the U.S. Constitution, Article III, Section 2. This would mean that Roe v. Wade would immediately pass away as any legal authority on this issue. Republicans tout themselves as being "pro-life." Yet, the GOP controlled both houses of Congress and the White House for six years and did absolutely nothing to overturn Roe or end abortion-on-demand. If the Republicans were really serious about being pro-life the could have already ended legal abortion in America. Obviously the Republican Party and most GOP politicians are not serious about ending abortion, but are, regrettably, simply content to perpetuate the issue to manipulate pro-life voters.

Under my administration, we could end legal abortion in a matter of days, not decades. And if Congress refuses to pass Dr. Paul's bill, I will use the constitutional power of the Presidency to deny funds to protect abortion clinics. Either way, legalized abortion ends when I take office."

Peoria Prayer Warriors!

A theme I try and emphasis through my ministry is 1) Prayer, 2) Unity, 3) Action. One of my favorite quotes is by Edmond Burke, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." We must get involved in prayer. We must unify in partnerships as the body of Christ, and we must take action against the dark forces in our culture!

Wherever you are, get involved!

Weekly ReCap – 10-03-2008 – Wake Up!

“Brethren, we came to this country to practice our religious liberties, and if we don’t get involved, we’re going to lose them.”
- John Peter Muhlenberg, born October 1, 1746, Pastor, General, Senator (1)

Best known for this story as told by William J. Federer, “‘In the language of the Holy Writ, there is a time for all things. There is a time to preach and a time to fight.’ Thus ended the sermon of 30-year-old pastor John Peter Muhlenberg as he removed his clerical robes to reveal a uniform in the Continental Army.” (2)

But he was much more than that one incident. This was a man that lived his life as a servant to Christ’s Kingdom and his country. (3)

We should take his words quoted above seriously even today! Today we do not face a cause for independence from a tyrant (although that could change, read below for details!), but we face the challenges of secularism and radical Islam. As Chuck Colson says in The Faith, “If there’s ever been a time in which renewal was essential, it is today when Christianity is pitted against not only hostile influences within Western secularism but a massive, monolithic force, Islamofascism, that is pledged to destroy us.”

Editors note: It’s not so funny, but just last week I noted that if we allow our government leadership to rewrite our American history, why not just remove the Bill of Rights! See American History Being ReWritten!!! How come more people aren’t connecting these dots?

“. . . One of America's most sacred principles has always been that the U.S. military was never to be used for domestic law enforcement. The fear of standing armies ran very deep in the hearts and minds of America's founders. The tyranny and misery inflicted upon the colonies by British troops weighed heavily upon those who drafted our Constitution and Bill of Rights. In their minds, the American people would never again be subjected to the heavy weight of army boots. Furthermore, they insisted that America would have a civilian--not military--government.

And after the fiasco of the abuse of federal troops in the South following the War Between the States, the doctrine of Posse Comitatus was enacted into law. . .

Now, just a few months after expunging Posse Comitatus, President Bush has authorized an Army brigade to be assigned the new role of dealing exclusively with domestic law enforcement and related duties. This evokes serious questions.

Who will give the order to send U.S. troops against American civilians, and under what circumstances? What will the rules of engagement be? How will "unruly" and "dangerous" be defined? How will soldiers be asked to deal with "crowd" or "traffic" control? And perhaps the biggest question is, Once we begin to go down this road, where will it lead?

For several years, the federal government has been accumulating to itself more and more authority that was historically understood to reside within the states and local communities. More and more, our police departments have taken on the image and tactics of the armed forces. And to a greater and greater degree, the rights and liberties of the American people are being sacrificed on the altar of "national security." It seems to me that to now ascribe law enforcement duties to the U.S. Army only serves to augment the argument that America is fast approaching police state status. . .” Read on. . .

Join the Heart of Illinois Life Chain on Sunday, October 5, 2008

Blow the trumpet in Zion!

We invite all people of good will to join us in prayer at the Heart of Illinois Life Chain on Sunday, October 5, 2008 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. along the sidewalks of University and Northmoor and Allen Road in Peoria. Signs are available up to an hour before the Life Chain at the corner of University and Northmoor. The Heart of Illinois Life Chain is truly a human chain stretching from where abortion deaths occur at 7405 N. University, south on University and west on Northmoor to Allen Road, then back north to Esther House. This route passes homes, churches and schools, symbolic of life for us and our children. Children standing beside their parents in prayer provide strong testimony of family unity to a culture where divisions in the family have become commonplace culminating in the ultimate division and death of abortion. Everyone, young and old, may participate in prayer. If any cannot stand, bring a lawn chair. Our witness is strengthened especially by the weakest among us.

On this day, we show our unity with the Children of God in our midst and, like Gandhi, our peaceful resistance to the dominance of evil in our culture.

SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES

This is the clearest most sober description of our current financial crisis and recommended solutions I have read yet!

In conclusion, this plan would return our monetary system to the American People and ignite a new wave of prosperity and liberty. Every crisis presents opportunities if we only look for them. This is an opportunity for the American people to throw off the yoke of debt bondage that has enslaved them for 100 years and gain direct control of monetary policy through representatives answerable directly to them. No particular philosophy has been respected or spared in this plan. I am more interested in saving the system for the American people than I am in respecting anyone’s philosophy of money or government. This is intended to be a simple, easy to understand, explanation of our banking crisis with a Consitutional solution.
