This year the National Day of Payer is on this Thursday May 3, 2007.
I would encourage you to find a local event to be involved with. Check with your church or go to the Official Web Site to search for an event near you. To our international readers, this is a national American focus, but can be adopted for any community!

The first Day of Prayer was declared by the Continental Congress in 1775.
I therefore beg leave to move That henceforth prayers, imploring the assistance of Heaven and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this assembly every morning before we proceed to business; and that one or more clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service.

Prayer
According to the National Day of Prayer Official Web Site, their mission is to mobilize the “Christian community to intercede for America and its leadership in the five centers of power: Church, Education, Family, Government and Media.”
Heavenly Father, I am just dirt. A sinful being. Search my heart, Lord, and convict me. Forgive me for my failings and lead me into your righteousness. I come before you, humble in heart, to beg your mercy on our nation.
Lord, work in the hearts of our Churches. Motivate and stir your saints to walk an authentic life devoted to you in all that they do. Unite the saints in witnessing and glorifying Your Holy Name!
Lord, protect our nation’s children. Let the children come to you, Lord. Protect them from our culture of wickedness. I pray, Lord, for the administrators, policy makers, elected officials, and teachers of our nation’s public school systems. Lord, grant them the wisdom to develop our children’s minds without political and cultural agendas. Help them see the need for the author and creator of Truth and Life.
Lord, protect and strengthen our nation’s families. Lord I pray that Fathers and Husbands would learn to lead their families in your ways. I pray for your blessings on all of our nation’s mothers. Lord, protect our families from the culture that is trying so desperately to rip them apart! Grant husbands and wives the courage to fight for their marriages and families!
Lord, I pray that you would open the eyes and hearts of our elected and appointed leaders. That you would grant them wisdom and discernment. I pray, Lord, that you would forgive our nations sins, forgive us for endorsing and encouraging the abortion of millions of innocent lives. Lord, provide wise Godly leaders in the up coming election year. Raise up leaders that will guide us back into your loving grace and mercy.
Lord, I pray that you would purge our media of doublespeak and partisan bias. That God would return our media culture to one of justice and goodness.
Heavenly Father, above all else, I pray that Your Name be glorified on earth, and that Your will be done. I thank you for my salvation, for the hope and joy that I have, and that you have made available to all, of the gift of forgiveness and eternal life in your Son, Jesus Christ. In His name I pray – Amen.
