Scripture
Luke 5:18-19
“Some men came carrying a paralytic on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.” (NIV)
“Just then some men came, carrying on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed. They tried to bring him in and set him down before Him. Since they could not find a way to bring him in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on the stretcher through the roof tiles into the middle of the crowd before Jesus.” (HCSB)
Observation
These men had great faith in Jesus! They wanted to help their friend and had faith that Jesus could do it! They went so far as climbing up to the roof, making a hole in it and lowering their paralyzed friend down to Jesus!
Application
What faith! Oh that I could have that kind of faith! And Jesus saw their faith by their actions and forgave and healed the paralyzed man (v. 5:20-24).
What priority is your personal faith? Do you seek Jesus first and foremost in your life? What about for your friends, Christians and non-Christians alike? How hard are you willing to work to bring them before our Savior?
Do our actions reflect our faith? Not for earning any favor, but a true, from the depths of our hearts, faith and yearning for Jesus!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I have faith that you are the Maker of heaven and earth, that you have provided salvation and a renewed relationship with your creation through Jesus, and that all wounds can be healed through Him. I pray, Lord, that you would fill my heart with a faith that would lead to action and a passionate desire to seek you always, for myself and those around me. In Jesus Christ’s name I pray – Amen.
