Mid-Week Devotional 8/16/2006


1 Peter 2:4 – 3:7


Overview:
Character and marriage building exhortations.

Verse:
1 Peter 2:17
“Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.” (NIV)
“Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the Emperor.” (HCSB)

Observation:
We are called to honor everyone including the civil authority (king or Emperor), which just happened to be Emperor Nero who was persecuting Christians. We in the fellowship are called to love one another, and we should always have a reverent fear of God.

Application:
We should show respect to our civil leaders, even when we disagree with them or when they are persecuting us. Pray for your civil leaders, mayor – governor – president – etc…, today. Show respect to everyone you come into contact with today, especially fellow believers.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to honor and love those around me, even my enemies. I love, honor, and fear you, God. Thank you for your Son, Jesus. In his name I pray – Amen.
