Mid-Week Devotional 8-23-06

1 Peter 3:8 - 4:11

Scripture:
1 Peter 3:11
He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.” (NIV)

and he must turn away from evil and do good. He must seek peace and pursue it,” (HCSB)

Observation:
This is a reference to Psalm 34:12-16. To have a long life, delight in it and enjoy what is good (Psalm 34:12). You will draw the eyes of the Lord (Psalm 34:15).

This passage instructs us in repentance. Repentance has two parts: first, confess your sins; second, turn away from sin. Replace bad habits with good, do good and seek peace. This is a strong action passage: turn, do, seek, pursue!

Application:
Christ’s followers must continually do a heart check and turn from sin. They should do good and seek the peace, that is hope in Jesus Christ, and pursue it! Check your motivations today.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me pursue you today. Help me focus on doing good things and the hope of your Son Jesus Christ. In His name I pray – Amen.
